Addictive Album of the Week

Grizzly Bear- Veckatimest (2009)
For Fans Of: Beach House, Deerhunter, Fleet Foxes, Beirut, Sigur Rós, Local Natives, Arcade Fire
Veckatimest is one of those albums I get obsessed with again every once in awhile. It's perfect to listen to late at night and just kick back. Grizzly Bear never disappoints; their gorgeous vocal harmonies and hints of folk influence are always on point.

You'll probably recognize their song "Two Weeks" from the trailer for Crazy, Stupid, Love. Grizzly Bear is also associated with another Ryan Gosling movie, Blue Valentine. In fact the movie's entire soundtrack is by them. Gosling and Grizzly Bear...I'm pretty sure that's the best combination ever.

Favorite tracks: Two Weeks, Ready, AbleCheerleader, Foreground

Quick Recipe: Coconut Lime Mousse

I'm very excited to present to you all my first recipe! I'm going to go ahead and admit that I am only 18 and currently the furthest thing from a good cook, but I figured it's about time I start really learning. I come from a family of amazing cooks and can only hope to one day possess their skills.

I was craving something sweet so I decided to combine two things I love: coconuts and limes (mmmm limeade!) into a simple mousse. If I can make this... well, anyone can.

-2 Limes
-1 Can of Condensed Milk (I recommend the Nestle brand)
-1/2 Can of Coconut Milk
-Half a cup of *Unsweetened Coconut Flakes (or to taste)
1. Squeeze two lemons with a juicer (or by hand) and then add the juice to a blender.
2. Add the entire can of condensed milk and about half the can of coconut milk as well.
3. Next, add in about half a cup of the unsweetened coconut flakes.
4.  Blend till evenly distributed.
5. Let it chill in the fridge for about an hour or so until it has a pudding like texture.

I threw in some extra coconut flakes on top after it was done chilling.

I look forward to sharing more recipes with you all as I continue to find my way around the kitchen,
but I can't promise you it'll be the prettiest path.

Quick DIY: Fun Flower Picture Frame

Here are the flowers and the old necklace I used: I've been really inspired by bright colored flowers lately, so I thought I'd use some to revamp an old picture frame (fake flowers of course!). I bought these for a total of $2 dollars at Dollar Tree, so it was a super cheap project. While I was scavenging for hot glue sticks, I found an old broken necklace of mine that I felt obligated to add onto my frame. I knew it would come in handy one day.

I also decided to update the picture to a photo of my best friends and I at my senior prom last year. God I miss that coral dress! The other photo will definitely still be going somewhere because who doesn't love looking back and laughing at the days when you used to use up an entire stick of eyeliner in a week. Or maybe that was just me...
Many more crafts to come soon!

I'll Just Keep Myself In The Sun

-Top (hand-me-down), Blue Romper (Urban Outfitters, Belt (Forever 21).

I'm seriously in love with this tunic my cousin gave me. Anything I can wear with one of my beloved rompers is a total win in my book... (I'm SO addicted to rompers!). Too bad it is nearly 40 degrees colder out than I want it to be. Putting this back in my must-wear-soon-when-warmer pile.

Hope you all are having a wonderful Friday!

Bands To Know: She & Him

For Fans Of: Kate Nash, Feist, Camera Obscura, Regina Spektor, Ingrid Michaleson, Cults
My Favorite Songs: Me and You, You Really Got a Hold On Me, Home, Over it Over again
I got into She & Him thanks to an awesome friend I met in college. I had been wanting to check them out for a whileprimarily due to the girl crush I have on the multi-talented Zooey Deschanel...
Even if you're not a fan of her acting, her dreamy 60's voice might still win you over. Much credit is also due to her lovely counterpart, M. Ward who makes up the "Him." Together they make music
I can not stop listening to.

Check out: Volume One, Volume Two and A Very She & Him Christmas

I'm also hoping to do a Zooey inspired look in the near future!

Let the Sun Wrap its Arms Around Me

-Maxi skirt, tank and necklace (random stores in Brazil), Vest (Forever 21), Shoes (Marshall's).

Today was such a gorgeous day! My little sister and I took a nice walk around our neighborhood and gawked at the new houses being built. I'm really hoping this lovely warm weather will last.

Five Things On My Fashion Wish List

I bought my first turband in teal a month ago and am dying to get more. These are from Etsy.
One day I will buy a pair of Doc Martens and they will hopefully be like these.
I'm really feeling a trip to Forever 21 to get one of these neutral colored blazers. Left. Right.
Also from Forever 21, is this awesome skirt I have my eye on. It's a must have for the spring!
I don't really wear many crazy prints, but I love this dress by Sosie. I need some fun new dresses!

DIY: Picture Frame Necklace Holder

There are tons of great necklace hangers made with frames circulating around. Here's my attempt.
My wonderful best friend and her mom made one first and once I saw it, I knew I had to get them to help me make my own. (They're both way craftier than me).

Pick out some crazy fun knobs. I got mine from Michael's and then we took them to a hardware store to get the ends sawn off a bit. (So the frame could rest against the wall without sticking out).

Get a a large picture frame. They let me use a frame they already had and then we painted it lightly with silver paint to give it a rusty, vintage look.

Just twist in the knobs and start hanging your necklaces. Happy crafting!

Bands To Know: Portugal.The Man

For Fans Of: MGMT, Empire of the Sun, Circa Survive, Good Old War, Maps & Atlases, Person L
My Favorite Songs: When The War Ends, Work All Day, The Sun, Just A Fool, And I
First, can we just talk about how stellar this promo by John Gourley (P.TM vocalist!) and Austin Seller is? I have to admit one of my favorite things about Portugal. The Man is all the artwork—especially the In the Mountain in the Cloud cover.

Now to the music. This Alaskan psychedelic band does weird so right you can't help but be transported to their mystical world. P.TM delivers a sound that is not only vivaciously
melodic and infectious, but also consistently refreshing with each new album.

If you're a first time listener, I recommend starting with their fourth album, The Satantic Satanist. You should then be able to decide if you want to backtrack to their edgier Mars Volta-esque days, or get their newer albums that are a bit softer and crisper. Plus, you can go ahead and start turning heads when you tell people you are listening to an album with such a title.  Happy listening!

February Fourteenth, Twenty Twelve

-Shirt (random store in Brazil), Jacket (Forever 21), Skirt (Marshall's), Shoes (Charlotte Russe).

Happy love day to all!

Happy GALentine's Day!

If you've kept up with the comedic masterpiece that is NBC's Parks and Recreation, you know today is a very special holiday. It's Galentine's Day! Incase you haven't, here's an explanation from the holiday creator herself:
What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas! -Leslie Knope
I might even like Galentine's Day more than Chrismukkah. (Seth Cohen memories anyone?)

Want to celebrate like the "ovaries before broviaries" queen herself? Get some tips for the perfect Galentine's Day from Leslie Knope herself right here
Go tell a lady friend you love her today and start planning some girly fun.

Addictive Album of the Week

Best Coast- Crazy for You (2010)
For Fans Of: Sleigh Bells, She & Him, Cults, Beach House, Wavves, The Blow, Camera Obscura
My only "real" issue with this album is that it makes me want warm weather, the beach and a surf board..stat.  So this week I'm going to pretend all those things are currently available to me while I jam to Best Coast.
They remind me of early The Blow, which I really like. This album is a carefree, love crazed journey in the sun and it makes me feel pretty darn good.

Favorite Tracks: Boyfriend, When I'm With You, Crazy For You

Looking Forward to Spring Time

-Dress (thrifted and upcycled), Shoes (Urban Outfitters).
It's way too cold to wear this outfit outside right now, but I've been dying to try on this dress I found in my older sister's closet. She adjusted the length, redid the seams and used the original shoulder pads to make a fanny pack! Can't wait to wear this little vintage number in the spring. These Urban shoes are so great! I need to wear them more often.

Bands To Know: Interpol

For Fans Of: Joy Division, The National, Editors, The Strokes, Radiohead, The Chameleons
My Favorite Songs: Leif Erikson, Obstacle 2, C'Mere, Take You On a Cruise, The Specialist
I first heard of Interpol a few years ago when I fell in love their song "The Specialist" while watching season 1 of The O.C. For a long time, that's as far as I got. Eventually, I stumbled upon the entire Turn On The Bright Lights album and instantly knew that fate wanted us to be united. It was a euphoric discovery that quickly led to Interpol becoming one of my favorite bands.

I can't deny their eery resemblance to the iconic Joy Division—as everyone is always so eager to point out—but I do believe they ultimately shine in their own light. Interpol's grungy post punk revival sound and bizarre lyrics have established them a loyal fan base for over 10 years and it's not too late to join in.

The group's first two albums are notably superior to the latter two, but still enjoyable nonetheless. I can not wait to see how their sound evolves in the rumored upcoming fifth album. Fingers and toes crossed for some news on the subject soon and also a new U.S. tour.

Weekend Jams Playlist

Oh weekends! How I love thee. I love thee even more so when complemented with an appropriate playlist. Here are some "party mood" songs guaranteed to liven up these golden days. And yes, I included R. Kelly's "Ignition" because let's face it...that song will always be awesome. Enjoy!

Make it a Red Tights Kind of Day

-Shirt and shoes (Forever 21) Skirt (H&M), Blazer, hat and tights (My sister's closet).

The right pair of tights can really complete a look. It's always so fun to experiment with a new color.

Addictive Album of the Week

Toro Y Moi - Causers of This (2010)
For Fans Of: Washed Out, Neon Indian, Memory Tapes, M83, Wavess, Miike Snow, Passion Pit
Some of you may be more familiar with Toro Y Moi's most recent work, Underneath the Pine. While I love the new album, Causers of this remains my favorite... by far. Chaz Bundick makes me feel comfortable calling chillwave its own genre.

I could explain to you all day the effect the electro-hypnotic, choppy beats have on me when I leave this album on repeat, but do yourself a favor and check it out yourself.

My Favorite Tracks: Fax Shadow, Talamak and Lissoms

Look of the Week: Statement Tights

-Leather jacket and tights (Forever 21), Lace dress (Ross), Black pumps (Charlotte Russe).
I can't believe my sister found this dress for just $5. And the best part's now mine!
