Quick DIY: Colorful Paint Swatch Art

I'm moving into my first apartment in August with a good friend and I've already started to think decor! The best part of this project is that it can be totally free. I got my bright paint chips from Home Depot, found a block of wood from their free scraps pile, and used letters I already had.

You'll need: A bunch of paint chips (I like the rounded ones personally), a hot glue gun, vinyl Letters, and something to mount it on like a piece of wood, a canvas, or even a square tile.

Steps: Lay out the paint chips in whatever order you desire (I decided to go the random colorful route) placing each one on top of the other to give it a scale-y look. Then just hot glue them on and dress it up with a word or phrase! I decided to do "home." I think it will look neat in the kitchen.

Inspired by A Beautiful Mess.

Making this had me singing a lot of songs with the word home in it, like "Home" by She & Him.

"It doesn't get better than home now does it?"

  1. Very cute DIY! I love your color choices. And I never knew Home Depot had a free scraps pile, I'm definitely gonna check that out!

  2. wow! nice DIY!

  3. What a great idea! My fiance and I have so many paint chips piling up while we try to figure out what color we want to paint the walls of the house we are building ourselves. I think I am going to give this a try instead of just throwing out all the colors chips we aren't liking anymore. Thanks for some great inspiration! Super cute blog!
